A Loving Relationship

Luke 15:11-32

V    Worship – the highest expression of our love for God. As we gather together before God in worship – singing, hearing the reading of the Bible, giving our tithes and offerings, praying, listening to the preached Word, baptizing, and sharing the Lord’s Supper – we know more clearly what it means to have a personal relationship with God.

V    Discipleship – the process of learning how God would have us live in the world. Through Sunday School, Bible Studies, and most effectively Home Small Groups we encourage believers and those who are not-yet-saved to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith and in their relationship with God.

Lack of Judging

The father could have stood in judgment, which was customary of the day, and refused the prodigal son because of his lifestyle choices.

From a negative heart overflows negative words which generally become negative actions resulting in a judgmental life.

Lack of Gossiping

The father would not allow the older brother to speak destructively about his younger son.

Our mission is too important and our words too powerful to speak carelessly and risk damaging people.

Lack of Devaluing

The father did not lower the status of his son, as per the prodigals’ request.

We cannot think so highly of ourselves that we frustrate our ability to be able to witness to others.

Unconditional Love

The parable might better be called the parable of “The Father’s Love” rather than “The Prodigal Son.”

The forgiving love of the father symbolizes the divine mercy of God and the joy of God at the repentance of sinners.

Relationship – the connection with God and with others. Our health and spiritual well being is a priority and must not be tainted by being judgmental, gossiping, or devaluing people.
